Second-Generation Company Celebrates Big Anniversary
In November 1989, Terry Donahue had a dream to open his own business, and started Shamrock Utility Trailers. He rented an office and yard space from a small local trucking company and his wife Lindy took care of invoices and bills. While in college, son Tim sold trailers during Christmas. After graduating, Tim joined the company full-time. In 1993, Shamrock moved to a larger lot, with an office trailer as headquarters. Two additional salespeople and a part time office person were hired. Tim became Sales Manager and brother Wayne came on board.
In 1998, Shamrock outgrew their space, and with the support of Utility Trailer Manufacturing Co., purchased their New Stanton, PA home. Located on 7-½ acres, their original building housed an office, a warehouse for parts, and several repair bays. To accommodate growth, an additional 10,000 square feet was added in 2003.
Terry Donahue retired in 2010 and turned the operation over to Tim, with Wayne as Parts Manager. “We are proud to be a second-generation Utility dealer, representing the number-one trailer in the industry for the greater Pittsburgh Tri-State area,” said Tim Donahue, President of Shamrock. “Our relationship with Utility is also gratifying. As a family-owned business, their way of doing business resonates with our values. The Bennett family has always made us feel like we are part of the whole organization. It is special to be able to know the principal owners. We especially appreciated their support in 2007. Along with our people, the Bennett family was there for us as we came back from a major building fire in 2007.”
An Open House was held on Friday, August 23rd, 2019, with 150 guests in attendance, including customers, vendors, and other local New Stanton business owners. Lunch was catered and a custom made cake was cut to mark the occasion. Utility and various vendors including Haldex, Meritor, Hendrickson, Grote, ALPCO, Bendix, Kinedyne, and Maxon donated prizes for a raffle.
